Dolly Parton is back in the public eye.
The 80-year-old country music legend made a surprise appearance on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening of her newest business venture, Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop, in Cornersville, Tenn. The event marked one of her first public outings since revealing ongoing health issues that forced her to cancel her Las Vegas residency.
Dressed in one of her signature sparkling fringe outfits, Parton greeted fans with a smile before taking the stage to celebrate the milestone.
Dolly Celebrates New Tennessee Travel Stop
During the ceremony, Parton shared her excitement about welcoming travelers to the new destination.
“Well, the doors are open and I could not be prouder. Whether you are hauling loads, hauling the family, or just passing through, we built this place for you,” she said.
The country superstar also couldn’t resist making a joke about popular truck stop chain Buc-ee’s.
“I’m sure some of you want to know why I wanted a truck stop. Well, I couldn’t leave it to beavers,” she quipped, drawing laughs from the crowd.
Health Challenges Forced Her Off the Stage
Parton’s appearance comes weeks after she announced she was canceling her planned Las Vegas residency due to ongoing health concerns. She had previously postponed the shows last September while dealing with undisclosed medical issues.
In a health update shared in May, the “Jolene” singer revealed that kidney stones have been a longtime issue for her. She also explained that over the past three years, both her immune and digestive systems had become compromised.
“The good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments and I’m improving every day,” she said.

“Now, the bad news is, it’s gonna take me a little while before I’m up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit ‘swimmy-headed’ as my grandma used to say.
“And of course, I can’t be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels. And you know that I’m going to be wearing them!”
Grieving the Loss of Her Husband
In addition to her health struggles, Parton has been mourning the loss of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in 2025 at the age of 82.
Speaking during an appearance at Dollywood in March, she explained why she has stepped away from touring.
“I’ve been not touring, as you know,” Parton said. “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them.”
© The Grosby GroupShe also acknowledged the emotional toll of losing Dean, saying she needed time to recover after becoming “worn down and worn out grieving over” her late husband.
The couple shared a decades-long love story after meeting in the 1960s and marrying in 1966, while largely keeping their relationship out of the spotlight.
Looking Ahead
Parton has experienced a number of health-related interruptions over the past year, including missing a Dollywood announcement after complications from kidney stones led to an infection and doctors advised her not to travel.
Still, the country icon has maintained her trademark sense of humor. Addressing false rumors about her death in a recent message, she joked that she was “not ready to die yet” and made it clear she still has plenty left to accomplish.
Her latest appearance suggests she’s continuing to recover while finding new ways to connect with fans, even if a return to the concert stage will have to wait.
