Drew Barrymore always keeps it honest and isn’t afraid to get vulnerable. And you have to love her for it!
The actress and TV personality, 51, got emotional discussing insecurities surrounding her body at 51, especially after giving birth twice (she shares daughters Olive and Frankie with ex-husband Will Kopelman), during a segment on The Drew Barrymore Show.
On Monday, April 6’s episode, Drew and Ross Mathews led a makeover segment for two fans to make them feel more confident and empowered in their bodies post significant weight loss.
“How did you go on this journey in the first place,” Drew asked one of the makeover recipients, a woman named Dawn who was decked out in a full off-white bodycon gown with pearls. “I was just tired of being tired, and I wanted more energy for my kids,” Dawn responded, choking up near the end.
“I so relate,” Drew added, immediately choking up and letting the tears flow as well. “The other day I was walking down the street – and I’ve had two C-sections, and I’m so wrecked down there that I permanently just…cannot wear a lot of different pants.”
“But the other day I was walking around, and I had this shorter shirt on,” the mom-of-two continued. “And I couldn’t keep my jacket closed, and I’m walking around [thinking], ‘I don’t want anyone to see this!'”
Drew continued to get emotional, continuing: “I so get, when you have kids, a busy life, your body changes, you get older, and things just aren’t the same. Just hearing your story, I just thought of how I felt just two days ago walking down the street on a Sunday with my daughter.”
© Getty ImagesShe praised Dawn for the work she’d done on herself and especially her newfound confidence, cheering her on by showering her with more and more love, even turning the focus to one of her daughters who was in the audience.
Drew then went down and asked her daughter: “Why are my daughters constantly saying please don’t wear your sweatpants and old T-shirt?” When she was told it’s “not a mom look,” she fired back that it’s what she sees a lot of kids at her daughters’ school wearing, quipping: “Hello, pot, this is the kettle calling,” about it.

“Yes, physically, we decline a little bit along the way and that is challenging. I just don’t think it matches in any way to some of the calm, some of the lived experience.”

How can I take away from my experience here on this planet, this pale blue dot, by being so cruel to myself?’,” she continued. “This is no way to live. And I had no access to that type of brain function when I was younger. I just thought that’s what it took.”
