Dylan Dreyer opened up about the devastating miscarriage she kept secret while on a vacation with friends, revealing the physical pain she endured as she tried to put on a brave face. The Today star shared during an episode of The Parent Chat podcast that she had been hiding her pregnancy during the group trip before realizing that she had lost the baby.
“I’ve suffered one miscarriage, and I remember, we were kind of on a group vacation,” Dylan recalled. “So, there was just like a lot of people around, and everybody’s happy, everybody’s on vacation.” She added that she was “hiding the fact that [she] was pregnant” by “pretending to drink, but not really drinking“.
“I remember also hiding the fact that I was, in addition to hiding the fact that I was pregnant, dealing with this miscarriage. And I’m surrounded by people,” the 44-year-old explained.
“I’m crying in my bed in so much pain, because no one really tells you how painful, physically painful, it is. And I’m like, ‘Man, I wish I could share this with someone,‘ and you can’t always do that.“
Dylan is now a mom of three, and shares her sons Cal, nine, Ollie, six, and Rusty, four, with her ex-husband, Brian Fichera. The pair married in 2012 and announced their separation in July 2025. She then filed for divorce in March 2026.
The blonde beauty added that after welcoming her first child, Cal, in 2016, she struggled with her fertility, leading to a series of devastating miscarriages.
“When I first came on the Today show, it was after my miscarriage,” the meteorologist said on the podcast. “And then, I had secondary infertility, and I was scared to death to tell anybody about it because I’m like, ‘Well, everybody’s going to judge me because I already have one child, and there are a lot of people who can’t have one child. And here I am, you know, how dare you want a second child.‘”

She explained that the scarring left over from Cal’s birth had made it difficult for her to welcome more kids. “[The doctor] cleared out the scar tissue and I was able to have my second, and eventually, my third,” Dylan said.
“So it’s like, by sharing these stories, maybe somebody who’s sitting at home can be like, ‘Well, maybe that’s my problem. Maybe I’ll ask the doctor about that.‘ Right? I think talking about it only does good things for everyone around us.”
Her ex-husband, Brian, previously revealed that her former Today colleague, Hoda Kotb, provided steadfast support for the couple after Dylan’s miscarriage in 2019.
Brian shared in a moving birthday tribute on social media that when he took Cal to see a show with Hoda, Dylan was forced to skip the event due to her miscarriage, which Hoda did not yet know about.
After he explained the situation, “without hesitation she gave me a hug…the weight of the world was infinitely lighter because @hodakotb was there at the drop of a hat to help me lift it“.
