Elizabeth Taylor has one of the most emblematic faces of Hollywood. The actress and star of numerous key Hollywood classics was an icon of glamour and a woman with a very intriguing personal life, getting married eight times. Leafing through her bio could take up your full afternoon.
In a new interview with PEOPLE, her lawyer and confidante Barbara Berkowitz opened up about her friend. “She was so above the fray of so many things. She herself had no tolerance for gossip, backstabbing, or pettiness. She wasn’t like that at all and was not… She didn’t create drama,” she said.
Berkowitz also revealed the one trait of Taylor that drove her crazy. “The only thing that I think with Elizabeth that would drive me insane was the tardiness, which people would comment on.”
“I don’t know how her getting-ready team… I would’ve had an ulcer, let me put it that way,” she laughed.

Berkowitz revealed how she dealt with Taylor’s tardiness, sharing a look at her curious beauty ritual.
“I would say, I’d call going, ‘How’s she doing? How’s she doing?’ And they’d go, ‘Okay, she’s in the bath.’ Well, you would think that she’s just starting her process. Fascinating to me, her bath was the last thing she did because it set her makeup,” she said. “So she’d get out, put on her jewelry, put on her clothes, and out the door. Her hair was done, her makeup was done. It was very fast after that.”

Elizabeth Taylor starred in key films from Hollywood’s golden era, including “Cleopatra,” “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” and more. She was nominated for five Academy Awards and won twice. She married seven men, from heirs to actors to singers to senators. She married her co-star Richard Burton twice.
