Paramount+’s spy thriller, The Agency, returned with its highly anticipated second season this weekend, and fans are already calling the new instalment “perfection”.

Adapted from the French drama Le Bureau des Légendes by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, the series continues to follow Michael Fassbender as CIA agent Martian. After being forced to abandon his undercover life for a dangerous double-agent role in London, Martian faces his toughest mission yet: rescuing his lover, Samia, from captivity in Sudan.

What happens in season 2?

Season one ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with CIA agent Martian forced to work as a double agent for the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service.

In the new episodes, Martian’s lover Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith) is being held captive by Sudanese intelligence.

The synopsis teases: “Martian is a CIA agent living undercover in his own life. Samia, his lover, is a political prisoner in Sudan, and he will do anything to try to save her, even past the point of treachery. The only way out is deeper in. A knife-edge Martian must walk if he is to save love, life, and his mission.”
