Latin Americans’ sounds will be heard in one of the world’s biggest sporting events. Alex Martínez, a celebrated Venezuelan harpist and composer, has been selected to perform during the 2026 FIFA World Cup as part of the tournament’s official cultural programming.

Venezuelan folklore, rhythms, and traditions of llanera music will be introduced to an international audience gathered for the world’s most-watched event. Martínez will make his official World Cup debut on June 14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, during the pre-match festivities for the highly anticipated Group F clash between Japan and the Netherlands.

Venezuelan harpist Alex Martínez will showcase the rich traditions of llanera music during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, introducing global audiences to a modern fusion of joropo, jazz, rock, and electronic sounds.

The opportunity comes through FIFA’s prestigious Hospitality program, an exclusive initiative designed to elevate the fan experience through premium entertainment, cultural showcases, and artistic performances.

A Modern Voice for Traditional Venezuelan Music

Born in Barquisimeto, in Venezuela’s Lara state, Martínez has built a career around reimagining the traditional harp. While deeply rooted in the sounds of joropo and llanera music, his performances often venture beyond convention, blending folklore with contemporary genres such as rock, jazz, blues, bossa nova, and electronic music.

The result is a distinctive sound that honors Venezuelan heritage while appealing to younger, multicultural audiences who embrace both tradition and global musical influences.

His innovative approach has helped him stand out in a crowded digital landscape, where he has spent years sharing performances, tutorials, and original arrangements through online platforms. By leveraging social media and YouTube, Martínez has expanded the reach of Venezuelan folk music far beyond South America.

That strategy has paid off. One of his most notable achievements came when his joropo-inspired interpretation was featured in content celebrating the 40th anniversary of legendary rock band Metallica, exposing his work to an entirely new audience.
