Richard Gere is proud of his son. As he promotes his new TV show, Gere is opening up about his son, Homer Gere, who’s had a big year when it comes to his acting career.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Gere discussed his son’s exciting career and how proud he is of him, the work he’s done, and what’s coming up for him. “I’m proud of him on two levels,” he said. “One, he’s really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he’s doing. But he’s also handling it really well. He’s a good kid.”
Homer is the son of Gere and Carey Lowell, born in 2000. His career began in 2022, when he was first featured in different shorts. This year, he played his biggest role yet, playing an actor on “Euphoria.”
© WireImageGere continued to discuss Homer’s career and the challenges of the industry. He described Gere as “a really good young man who kind of gets it.” He said that acting “is not an easy job” and that “not everyone can function within it. I think he can stay.”
He shared that while he’s yet to catch up to “Euphoria,” he’s looking forward to some of the work that Homer has coming up this year. “I still need to see his second episode of Euphoria, but he has this big thing coming up with Ryan Murphy,” he said, referring to “The Shards,” which co-stars Kaia Gerber. Gere noted that Homer had also just wrapped production on an Oliver Stone film. “I can retire now,” Gere joked. “I’m passing the torch.”
Gere also shared that Homer is still young and has endless possibilities ahead of him. “I don’t think he’s got to make a life choice to commit to this if he’s doing this now,” he said. “He’s good at it and he’s having fun, but he can become a rock climber if he wants to do that.”

Richard Gere has three sons: Homer, 26, Alexander, 7, and James, 6. He shares his youngest sons with his third wife, Alejandra Silva, whom he married in 2018 after dating her for four years. Gere’s previous wives include Cindy Crawford, whom he was married to for four years, and Lowell, with whom he was for a decade.
Gere has maintained positive relationships with all of his children, often sharing glimpses of their relationship with the press. In the case of Homer, he’s mentioned how invaluable is having his father’s input in his life.
“It’s not necessarily related to like the craft, but more like how do you carry yourself, how do you make this work in a positive way,” said Homer in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Having that kind of sounding board constantly is amazing.”
