Only three days after Barcelona’s Champions League triumph, Putellas announced her departure in a heartfelt video message.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner, widely regarded as one of the key figures in elevating women’s soccer to global prominence, is leaving the club where she cemented her legacy. Her departure brings to a close a remarkable 14-season era at Barça as she prepares to begin a new chapter while carrying with her the memories that defined a generation.

Putellas shared the news herself in an emotional farewell video posted as a collaborative Instagram post with FC Barcelona and FC Barcelona Femení. The post is already nearing 500,000 likes, highlighting the emotional impact of her departure on fans around the world.

Full Statement: Her Farewell Message

“Culés, I remember the first time I heard your chants. I was six years old, and it was the first time I went to the Camp Nou with my father. At that time, I only saw men playing in the stadium, and I never would have imagined that, one day, more than 90,000 culés would be there shouting my name.

I can still feel the excitement of the first time I played in a Barça shirt, in the youth categories.

I can see, as if it were today, the pride on my father’s face, saying that he would not leave this world without seeing his daughter defend these colors with the first team.

At 18 years old, and only one month after the worst family moment of my life, life put Barça in front of me again, this time to become a player, and this time with the first team. When the opportunity came, he was no longer here, but in my worst moment, Barça saved me. That is why I will always be indebted to these colors.

We have taken the women’s team further than we ever could have imagined. At the beginning, being a footballer was not even recognized as a profession. Now, I only feel privileged to have been part of this change.

Thank you to every culé who has supported us, and to every person at the club who has pushed us forward from behind the scenes. It has been a beautiful and unrepeatable transformation.

Fourteen seasons and more than 500 matches. Moments that will remain forever in Barça’s memory and in my heart.

I do not have the words to describe what it has been like to live this alongside all my teammates. Those who opened the way, and those of us who arrived later to write this eternal legacy together.

To those of you coming behind us, you already know what I always tell you: the pressure of this shirt is a privilege. The future of the team is yours, and it will be your turn to make history at the best club in the world.

After all of this, the time has come to recognize that I have given everything for these colors. With a daily demand and obsession to constantly improve for 14 years.

I have always said that this shirt cannot be defended halfway. And I recognize that I have emptied myself for it. That is why I wanted to tell you that this Wednesday will be my last match as a player of FC Barcelona.

I have been, and I will always be, one more culé, like all of you. That is why I do not want this to be a sad moment. This is only the end of one stage, but fortunately, I was born a Culé, and I will die a Culé.

So, we will see each other again.

Visca el Barça, always, forever. I have always said that I wanted the final moment to come while I was at my best, giving everything and with 100% energy.

It has been a perfect story.”

She arrived as a young girl dreaming of becoming a soccer player and leaves as one of the defining icons of women’s soccer.

On May 27, she’ll wear the blaugrana jersey for the final time against Real Sociedad at Johan Cruyff Stadium, where preparations are already underway for what is expected to be an emotional farewell ceremony.

After weeks of speculation, one chapter closes and another begins. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, although clubs such as London City Lionesses have been strongly linked with the Spanish star. British media outlets are already reporting that a move to the club, which has competed in the Women’s Super League, the top tier of women’s soccer in England, since 2025, is close to being finalized.

The team is coached by Spanish manager Eder Maestre.
