Ivanka Trump opens up about the ‘hardest decisions’ she’s taken and how she handles criticism

Ivanka Trump is sharing the personal philosophy that guides some of the toughest choices in her life.

During a recent conversation with David Senra, the first daughter reflected on the importance of self-awareness, authenticity, and staying true to one’s values, explaining that understanding who you are is essential in a world filled with outside opinions and expectations.

“I think if you don’t know who you are, the world will tell you. It may not be an answer you want, right?” Ivanka said. “So the world is noisy, especially when you have a certain level of visibility. It projects onto you as much as it receives you.”

According to Ivanka, making difficult decisions becomes easier when they are rooted in personal values, even when the outcome isn’t necessarily comfortable.

“So I think you have to do the work of really getting to know yourself and what feels right,” she explained. “Some of the hardest decisions I’ve taken, and sometimes it’s really about saying no, setting boundaries, or changing course. When those decisions, regardless of how hard they are, align with your values, it always feels good.”

She continued, “It can be difficult, but you never question it. You never second-guess. You don’t look back and wonder what if.”

The businesswoman also shared what she believes is one of the biggest mistakes people make when faced with major life decisions.

Rather than relying too heavily on the opinions of others, Ivanka said people should trust their own judgment after gathering perspective.

“There’s something very important about speaking to people who are knowledgeable and getting perspective and feedback,” she said. “But ultimately, you can’t outsource decision-making as it pertains to major decisions in your personal or professional life. You really have to sit with it.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Ivanka praised individuals who remain unapologetically themselves despite public scrutiny.

She pointed to several well-known figures she admires for their authenticity, including music icon Dolly Parton.

“Dolly Parton, I love her,” Ivanka said. “She is who she is, and she’s always been the same, and she really owns it.”

The mother of three also reflected on why authenticity resonates so strongly with the public, particularly when someone has spent years in the spotlight.

“I think we’re naturally drawn to people who are extremely authentic, especially over time,” she said.

For Ivanka, embracing who you are ultimately matters more than trying to please everyone around you.

She concluded with a message about criticism, noting that judgment is unavoidable no matter what path someone chooses.

“And yet so many people I know are really afraid to be themselves,” she said. “The reality is you’re gonna get criticized either way. You might as well be the best version of you possible.”
