James, Earl of Wessex was among the guests at Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s royal wedding on Saturday, joining his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
The teenager, 18, is rarely seen at royal events, mostly staying out of the spotlight. However, on Saturday, he was seen towering over his parents as they arrived for the service, flying under the radar as he snuck into All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire.
James was seen greeting his parents as they departed their cars, and was wearing a smart suit for the occasion, matching his father. Meanwhile, his mother, Duchess Sophie, looked gorgeous in a subtle blue dress and stylish hat.
However, there was one royal absence from the gathering, as James’ older sister, Lady Louise Windsor, wasn’t seen with the other guests. It’s not been confirmed why she was absent from the family event.
James’ recent appearances
The Earl of Wessex, who inherited his title after his father became the Duke of Edinburgh, was last seen in public when he joined his family at the annual Easter service at Windsor Castle. On this occasion, he was only joined by his father, with Duchess Sophie being unwell and Lady Louise focusing on her studies.
The royal pair dressed identically with navy coats, white shirts and patterned ties. James kept his head down as they made their way to church, but did briefly crack a smile to the cameras, lifting his eyes up from under his tousled fringe.
© Getty ImagesAt the service, he was seen with a signet ring on the pinkie finger of his left hand. This type of ring is often an heirloom, and they tend to feature religious and spiritual symbols. The Duke of Edinburgh wears a similar ring.
Although his mother and sister weren’t present, on this occasion, he was seen chatting with the Princess of Wales. Royal fans took to social media to gush over the moment, calling them “natural buddies”. One person commented: “A lovely interaction between the Princess of Wales and James, Earl of Wessex.”
