Kevin Bacon is an iconic actor with an equally iconic name – but now, he’s decided to change it!
The Footloose star made the decision to switch his surname, Bacon, to another food-related moniker on June 17, switching it to ‘Bean’.
The reason why? It’s all part of the non-profit organization, Humane World for Animals’ new ‘Beansday’ campaign.
The campaign encourages people to switch meat for beans each Wednesday – a small change that could have a huge impact for animals, the planet and people’s health.
Kevin’s name change is only temporary, but is bound to make a big impact.
The actor often shares footage on social media from his 40-acre farm in Connecticut, usually surrounded by his beloved animals. In one memorable video – also featuring Kyra – the couple shared a clip of their goats, and explained that they had named one Macon.
The actress explained that they had originally wanted to use the name for their son, Travis, until they realized that would mean his name was Macon Bacon.
“So we waited for the goat to come along,” Kyra joked. Meanwhile, Kevin added: “We don’t like to say it out loud, but he’s our favourite.”
Kevin and Kyra have been married since 1988 and share two grown-up children, Travis and Sosie, who have both followed their footsteps into the entertainment industry.
Kyra previously opened up about her relationship with Kevin, giving an incredibly honest insight into the early years of their marriage.
She told Redbook in 2008: “When I look back at our first four years… by that time we’d had our second kid, and I look back at those pictures and I think: ‘Gosh, I didn’t know him at all!’ I loved him, but I didn’t know him, and he probably didn’t know me. But you grow together and learn more about each other,” she revealed.
When asked about the secret to their happy marriage, she said: “Everyone has marital struggles — I don’t buy the ‘Oh, it’s so hard, actors being married…
“Marriage is hard for everyone. So when we’re on the red carpet and we get the ‘How do you guys do it? No one can stay together,’ I get really irritated. I don’t think our relationship is more or less difficult; I just think you both make the commitment and you make it work.”
She continued: “We always knew that we were each other’s ‘one.’ Both of us knew this was forever and we were going to work it out no matter what happens, so when we fight, it’s not so scary.”
The couple have a lot of fun together too, and are often sharing snippets of their home life on social media – from dancing in the kitchen to singing with their goats.
