Lady Louise Windsor made headlines last week for her incredible work ethic as she worked at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
HELLO! revealed earlier this month that the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, 22, has been working behind-the-scenes at the show for several years as she wraps up her English degree at St Andrew’s University, but it wasn’t just her part-time role that caught our attention.
It seems the university student has a rather unexpected friendship with Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, AKA everyone’s favourite ‘hot equerry’.
In photos from the British horse show last Friday, the pair were side by side as they watched the display, which included ‘Azerbaijan – Land of Fire’, the ‘DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games’ and the ‘Musical Drive of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.’
The unexpected duo were pictured laughing as they watched the no-doubt dazzling display, all the while Lady Louise donned a beautiful hand-me-down from the Princess of Wales: her white fairisle jumper, as seen when the future Queen, when she appeared on CBeebies.
Who is ‘hot equerry’ Jonny Thompson?
Jonny was thought to be a rather dashing addition to the King’s inner circle back in 2022 when he transitioned from being the late Queen Elizabeth II’s bodyguard to the King Charles’ right-hand man.
In October 2024, he was thrust into the spotlight upon the delightful news of his engagement to his high-society girlfriend, Olivia Lewis. A statement in The Times read: “The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”
‘Down-to-earth’ Lady Louise
A source told HELLO! that Lady Louise previously requested a job in the offices during her university summer holidays and was “very polite and helpful” as she was put to work doing administrative tasks, such as sealing envelopes.
The insider added: “Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward provided Lady Louise and her brother James with as normal an upbringing as possible, and this is clearly reflected in her work ethic.
“She is very grounded and down-to-earth, you wouldn’t know she was a royal. It was her idea to ask for a part-time job. She’s very hard-working.”
