Lizzo is stepping back with new music and a bold message. The Grammy-winning artist, who is preparing to release her highly anticipated album on June 5, is focused on reclaiming her narrative through music and resilience. “The truth will come out,” she said during a conversation with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King.

Lizzo’s upcoming album is going to be provocative and intentional. The title alone reflects defiance and empowerment. “The album is called ‘Bitch,’” she explained. “After the song … I always have a title track.”

The project draws inspiration from feminist anthems, including “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks and “She’s a Bitch” by Missy Elliott. Lizzo said the word is something that has been reclaimed over time. “I feel like what both of those women did was they pushed that word forward in a way that empowered it,” she said. “Like that’s a word that used to get hurled at women. It’s my favorite word.”

Legal Battle

The album release also comes during a complex legal situation that began in 2023. Three of Lizzo’s former dancers accused her of harassment and a hostile work environment. Lizzo has consistently denied the accusations and is appealing aspects of the case. “I’m fighting the case because I know that it’s not true,” she stated. “Just like the fat shaming one is not true.”

She emphasized her willingness to testify. “The truth will come out, and that’s why I’m not afraid of it,” she said, adding that “the truth is less salacious than the headlines.” During the interview, Lizzo declined to go into specifics. “I cannot wait for it to be dismissed,” she added.

She Paused Her Previous Album

Before “Bitch,” there was “Love in Real Life;” however, after two singles failed to chart, she made the decision to pause the album indefinitely. “I didn’t delay anything,” she clarified. “I think that I have been working on an album and I put a lot of pressure on me for a long time.”

Lizzo said she shifted her mindset. “I’m here to make music. I’m here to give music to my fans.”

Weight Loss Journey

Lizzo also addressed the intense public attention surrounding her weight loss. “I released the anxiety I was going through. I released depression and I also released some weight on my body,” she said.

Despite challenges, Lizzo remains focused.

She made it clear she is not pursuing a specific body type. “I’m not a skinny person and I’m not trying to be.” Lizzo stated her approach was rooted in traditional methods. “Calorie deficit, cardio and protein,” she said. The singer also tried a GLP-1 medication in the past but stopped. “I’m scared of needles, and it just did not work out for me.”

Looking Ahead With Confidence

Despite challenges, Lizzo remains focused. “I know the music is good and I know my heart is good,” she told King. “So if I know that, I have nothing to worry about.” Adding: “People are gonna say what they wanna say… I hope to inspire other people to do it too.”
