Whether you laugh until you cry or don’t quite get it, it’s impossible to ignore Saturday Night Live‘s cultural impact. But someone had to be first up to the gate and Laraine Newman was one of the original castmembers to make sketch comedy a weekly tradition.

SNL stardom
Laraine starred on Saturday Night Live as part of their original comedy troupe from 1975 to 1980. She is best known for characters like Connie Conehead and ‘Valley Girl’ Sherry.
Other members of the original group include Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase.

Marriage to Chad Einbinder
Laraine said ‘I do’ to comedian Chad Einbinder in 1991, welcoming two children during their 24-year marriage. While they parted ways in 2015, there’s still plenty of love between the two.
On Chad’s birthday in 2023, Laraine posted a photo of the actor with their child Spike, captioned: “Happy Birthday Chad Einbinder-father of my children and one of the funniest people I know.”

Spike Einbinder
The oldest of Laraine and Chad’s two children, Spike Einbinder was born on 24 August 1991. Like his parents and younger sister, Spike is an actor best known for 2023 comedy You Hurt My Feelings and TV horror Los Espookys.
He has also appeared in shows like Fantasmas and The Curse.

Hannah Einbinder
Born on 21 May 1995, Hannah Einbinder has clearly inherited her parents’ comedy chops. The actress originally studied journalism and TV writing but later told her mother she wanted to pursue acting.
Since then, she’s had audiences laughing as Ava Daniels in Hacks, is due to appear opposite Gillian Anderson in 2026 slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and has released comedy special Everything Must Go on Max.

Where is she now?
Laraine is still working today, although she seems to have moved primarily into voice acting work with credits on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Bros, Despicable Me 4, Hoppers and The Sheep Detectives.
According to her IMDb, Laraine has several projects in the works including sports drama Last Shot which explores a basketball prodigy’s relationship with his estranged mother after his father’s death.
