Meet Michael Learned’s three children

Born on 9 April 1939, Michael Learned has won four Primetime Emmys over the course of her acting career. 

She starred in family sitcom The Waltons between 1972 and 1979 in almost 170 episodes as well as 1981 TV drama Nurse. 

Michael has been married four times, first tying the knot with Peter Donat at just 17 years old in 1956. The couple welcomed three children before their divorce in 1972.

She later married Glenn Chadwick and William Parker, but it was with John Doherty she found enduring love and remained married to him from 1991 until his death in 2025.

Chris Donat, the second of Michael and Peter’s three sons, prefers to keep a low profile regarding his personal life. 

Unlike his younger brother Lucas or the British actor who shares his name, Chris has kept his life entirely out of the spotlight and did not pursue a career in television or film.

Michael Learned and Peter Donat’s son Lucas Donat was born on 18 December 1962. As a teen, he appeared with William Holden and Lee Grant in Damien: Omen II.

It seems he didn’t inherit the acting bug and has instead found success as an advertising executive. On 20 July 1984, he tied the knot with his now-wife director Traci Wald Donat. They share one child together. 

Caleb Donat, son of Peter and Michael, prefers to keep a low profile regarding his personal life but shares plenty of updates related to his artistic work via Instagram.

Instead of performance, Caleb’s creative streak focuses on textile craft, the artist describing himself as: “Dabbling in studies of tactile. Feral repurposer. Inspired by synchronicity. Echoes of limbic.”

More recently, Michael Learned has been busy with projects like Netflix’s Monster as Catherine Dahmer and is due to appear in family drama Wake which stars Cole Sprouse and Riki Lindhome.

She is still best remembered as Olivia Walton and returned to the franchise for one-off specials like A Walton Wedding, A Walton Easter and A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion.
