Charlie’s Angels became a timeless fan favourite shortly after its release in 1976, and so too did its stars: Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith.
The three women were seen as icons of the 1970s and 80s as viewers fell in love with their characters: Sabrina Duncan, Jill Munroe, and Kelly Garrett, the glamorous private investigators working for the mysterious Charles ‘Charlie’ Townsend.
On-screen and off, they were powerhouses, skyrocketing to international fame one episode of the five-season hit at a time.
Becoming mums and wives in the midst of finding fame, the trio experienced a myriad of life’s milestones on the Los Angeles set. Let’s meet the men in the leading ladies’ private lives…
Kate Jackson
Now retired from acting, Kate, 77, has been married and divorced three times since she first starred in the TV show as a 27-year-old.
The former star, who chose to step away from the limelight to focus on raising her only son, Charles Taylor, whom she adopted in 1995, was first married to actor and director Andrew Stevens.
Kate tied the knot with the star in February 1978 and divorced him less than three years later.
Next, she said, “I do” to New York businessman David Greenwald one year after her divorce and started her production company, Shoot The Moon, with him. They were married for nearly two years before calling it quits.
Finally, the star met ski lodge owner Tom Hart in 1989 and married him two years later, deciding he was not the man for her in 1993. Following the end of her last marriage, Kate decided to stay single and became a mother on her own.
Farrah Fawcett
Before her death on 25 June 2009 after losing her battle with anal cancer at age 62, Farrah was married and enjoyed a long-term relationship with another man after her divorce.
The star tied the knot with fellow acting legend The Six Million Dollar Man‘s Lee Majors in 1973 and was in a relationship with him until their divorce was finalised in 1982, after separating years earlier, in 1979.
During her marriage to Lee, she met her next lover, 1970s Hollywood heartthrob Ryan O’Neal, who checked in on her while her husband was away, as per his instructions.
The pair ended up going on a date and admitted later: “We sat and kissed and kissed until our lips were bloody.”
Farrah and Ryan never married but enjoyed a passionate love affair for 17 years until they eventually broke up in 1997. They welcomed a son together, Redmond O’Neal, who was born in 1985.
The stars rekindled their relationship in the 2000s, after Ryan was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2001. He then remained by Farrah’s side after her own diagnosis until her death.
Jaclyn Smith
The only star of the trio to be happily married for over 30 years, Jaclyn tied the knot with her cardiothoracic surgeon husband, Brad Allen, in 1997.
Jaclyn, 80, and Brad, also 80, first met when her father was being treated for a heart condition at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Centre.
What followed was a romantic relationship for seven years before they decided to get engaged and married during a ceremony in Los Angeles on 11 October.
Ahead of her wedding day, Jaclyn told the Boston Herald: “I want this one to be forever,” something that seems to be working out as she had hoped.
On their 25th wedding anniversary, the Charlie’s Angels alumna gushed over her partner and shared on Instagram: “Happy 25th anniversary to my guy, my best friend, my partner in life who keeps me laughing through the ups and downs and takes such good care of all of us, even my honeybun.”
Before meeting Brad, Jaclyn was married three times: to actor Roger Davis from 1968 to 1975, to actor Dennis Cole from 1978 to 1981, and to director and cinematographer Tony Richmond from 1981 to 1989.
She welcomed two children, Gaston Richmond and Spencer Margaret Richmond, with her third husband, Tony.
