Mike Tindall reveals quirky nickname for wife Zara

Mike Tindall shared a sweet glimpse of his marriage revealing the affectionate nicknames he and wife Zara use for each other away from the spotlight.

The former England rugby star, who has been married to Princess Anne’s daughter since 2011, opened up about family life in a candid new interview, offering royal fans a rare insight into their famously down-to-earth relationship.

When asked whether the couple have pet names for one another, Mike revealed that they do indeed. “If it’s nicknames, it’s Z and Mikey-T,” he told Woman & Home.

But it was another nickname that melted hearts. The father-of-three shared that he and Zara also call each other “Munchkin”, highlighting the playful dynamic that has long made them one of the royal family’s most relatable couples.

Known for their easy-going nature and infectious sense of humour, Zara and Mike have become firm favourites among royal watchers, with many describing them as the “glue” that helps hold the wider royal family together during challenging times.

Their secret? According to Mike, it’s all about finding joy amid the chaos of everyday life. The couple are parents to three children, Mia, 12, Lena, seven, and Lucas, five, and balancing family commitments, work and public appearances isn’t always easy.

“It can be stressful,” Mike admitted. “You’re trying to do everything all at once, and that’s hard. But you find a way. The whole point is to find a way and get it done while having fun at the same time. That’s what we try to do anyway.”

He added: “You’ve always got to see the funny side!”

That philosophy is something royal fans often witness whenever the family steps out together. Whether cheering Zara on at equestrian events or attending race meetings across the country, the Tindalls are rarely seen without smiles on their faces.

Despite their increasing public appearances, Zara and Mike have always worked hard to ensure their children enjoy as normal a childhood as possible.

Unlike many members of the royal family, Zara does not carry a royal title, something that has allowed her and Mike to build a life largely outside the constraints of formal royal duties.

Instead, they have forged successful careers of their own while remaining closely connected to the wider royal family.

That said, Mike appears to be determined to get his young son to follow in his sporty footsteps, and he told HELLO! in 2025 that he was attempting to get all three of his children to play golf with him. “I think Lucas will be the one most into it,” he told us as he attended a charity golf tournament.
