Nick Cannon is opening up about a parenting double standard he follows when it comes to raising his twins with Mariah Carey. Cannon is the father of 12 kids, with his oldest, 15-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, going through their first teenage experiences.
In an episode of the TMZ podcast, Cannon was a guest, opening up about his teenage kids and their growth. He revealed that his son, Moroccan, started to date, but that his daughter didn’t have the same privileges. “My son has been dating, and I’ve allowed it,” he said.
Cannon revealed that his decision not to allow Monroe to date was “absolutely a double standard.”
“I am more protective of my daughter because there’s things out there that I have to protect my daughter from,” he said. “Like, as we know, there’s certain types of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from. My son, it’s a different conversation when he’s going out into the dating world.”
© Getty ImagesCannon shared that while he’s protective of both of his kids, he has a soft spot for his daughter. “If somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail… I’m doing 25 to life if somebody puts their hands on my daughter,” he said.
When asked if he was afraid of gold-diggers approaching his son, Cannon laughed it off. “No! He got a whole lot of money. His mom is Mariah Carey! He’s good,” he said.

© GettyCannon revealed that he and Monroe had made a deal when it comes to her dating life. “If she can explain to me what’s going to happen on these dates, then she can go,” he said. Cannon added that her brother might tag along to the dates, at least until she’s in college.
“I know that’s out of my control. I can’t do anything about it. Hopefully, we’re having all these open conversations. My daughter tells me any and everything,” he said more seriously.
Despite his reticence about her dating life, if Monroe can “explain it to me, if we can have a conversation about it, I’m for it. Because I know when you get to college, I want you to have all the questions answered and you make the best decisions possible.”
