Shakira is the MVP of soccer, and while she doesn’t even play the sport, she knows how to keep it musically legendary for decades. The Colombian global sensation is officially back in World Cup mode and not to sit in the VIP booth. Once again, the four-time Grammy winner will be in charge of the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Shakira took to social media to release a first preview of her upcoming song “Dai Dai,” a track created in collaboration with Nigerian superstar Burna Boy. The song will arrive on May 14 and is already generating excitement among fans worldwide.

Shakira’s one-minute teaser shows her performing with a large group of dancers inside Maracanã Stadium, one of soccer’s most legendary venues. The clip gives a glimpse into the energetic choreography, stadium visuals, and rhythmic Afrobeat-inspired production.

Shakira, more than any other artist, knows how important it is to secure these anthems. This release marks another major chapter in her long relationship with the FIFA World Cup. Her 2010 hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” became one of the most successful tournament songs ever released, dominating charts globally and remaining a staple at football celebrations more than a decade later.

The Colombian superstar has consistently maintained a presence at soccer’s biggest event, whether sitting on the sidelines with the kids she shares with former FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, who won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain during the same tournament where “Waka Waka” became a worldwide phenomenon, or performing one of her hits during the ceremonies.

During the 2006 World Cup closing ceremony she sang “Hips Don’t Lie” and later delivered “Dare (La La La)” at the 2014 tournament celebrations. With “Dai Dai,” Shakira makes history as one of the few artists to headline multiple official World Cup music campaigns across different eras.

In addition to the Latina singer, Burna Boy also reflects FIFA’s increasingly global musical direction. Burna Boy is known for blending Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall and pop influences.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will also be historic for several reasons, as this is the first time it will be hosted across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The competition is scheduled to kick off on June 11 in Mexico City and is expected to become the largest World Cup ever staged.

The anticipation is building for the 2026 World Cup, and having Shakira potentially dropping one of the defining songs of the summer tournament season already suggests this will be unforgettable.
