Stanley Tucci has candidly opened up about his marriage to wife Felicity Blunt, revealing why their 21-year age gap has never caused issues in their relationship.
The 65-year-old actor admitted he never expected to fall in love again after the devastating death of his first wife, Kate Tucci, in 2009, but said meeting Felicity changed everything.
Speaking on Jenna Bush Hager’s Open Book podcast while promoting his new book What I Ate in One Year, the The Devil Wears Prada 2 star reflected on rebuilding his life after loss.
“I wasn’t sure that I would ever remarry,” Stanley shared, explaining that his relationship with Felicity, 45, “just sort of made sense” despite the significant age difference.
The couple first met in 2006 at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada, where Stanley starred alongside Felicity’s younger sister, actress Emily Blunt. At the time, Stanley was still married to Kate, whom he wed in 1995.
© Getty ImagesThe pair later reconnected at Emily’s 2010 wedding to John Krasinski, and their romance quickly blossomed.
“Obviously, I knew her family… and we just hit it off,” Stanley explained. “We had a lot in common, even though we had nothing in common. And it just sort of stuck.”
Stanley and Kate shared three children together – twins Isabel and Nicolo, 26, and daughter Camilla, 24 – before Kate tragically died from breast cancer aged 47.
© Getty ImagesThe actor has previously spoken openly about the grief of losing his wife and raising three young children alone, admitting he initially struggled with the idea of moving on.
“I never thought I would have children again,” he said on the podcast.
But Felicity, a London-based literary agent, ultimately brought a renewed sense of happiness and stability into his life.
“She changed my life in the sense that she gave me a sense of security,” Stanley said. “She gave my children a sense of security, and she’s fun… she’s fun to hang out with.”

Stanley also praised Felicity’s intelligence and positivity, describing her as “pretty cool” and crediting her with helping expand his career beyond acting into writing and food television.
The actor, who overcame tongue cancer in 2017 and is now cancer-free, previously admitted he almost ended the relationship in its early stages because he worried the age gap would make him “feel old”.
Instead, he chose to stay, later calling Felicity “an incredibly special person”.
“If anybody made things better for all of us, it’s her,” he previously said. “She’s the one.”
