Crime drama fans searching for their next addictive TV binge need look no further. The Australian mystery thriller, The Killings at Parrish Station, has officially landed on HBO Max in the UK, and it sounds unmissable. 

Billed as a “gripping thriller where cold-case crime, investigative drama, and soft horror intertwine,” the series follows a haunting murder investigation across two timelines. Promising cinematic scale and a compelling narrative packed with unexpected twists, The Killings at Parrish Station should be on your watchlist this week.

What is The Killings at Parrish Station about? 

The story begins in 1987, when Detective Georgia Cooke is called in to investigate a gruesome massacre at a remote research station deep in the scorching Australian outback.

Four scientists have been brutally murdered, leaving a lone survivor as the primary suspect. But as Georgia’s investigation uncovers a web of mania, ritual, and the occult, her obsessive quest for the truth quickly spirals into a nightmare that threatens her career, her family, and her very sanity.

The synopsis continues: “And 37 years later, a chilling new spree of murders will pull Georgia back into this nightmare as she confronts the terrifying possibility that the horrors at Parrish Station were never fully buried…”

What to expect from the series

Sasha Breslau, VP of Content Acquisitions at HBO Max, UK & Ireland, teased the series as a “superbly compelling, macabre mystery,” while executive producer Mark Fennessy described the drama as a “gripping cold-case mystery wrapped inside an unsettling cosmic horror story, all anchored by a powerful emotional journey.”

The story is told across two timelines

Meet the all-star cast

The series features a stellar ensemble. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) stars as the 1980s-era Georgia, while Heather Mitchell (Love Me) portrays her in the present day. 

They’re joined by Xavier Samuel (Blonde, Elvis), Robert Taylor (Longmire, Scrublands), Alan Dale (The Assassin, Dynasty), Emma Lung (Wolf Like Me, Strife), Doris Younane (Five Bedrooms, McLeod’s Daughters), Kat Hoyos (Amazing Grace), Nic English (Ten Pound Poms) and Alex Malone (The Royal Hotel).

Rounding out the cast are Geoff Morrell, Rob Carlton, Alex Lee, Cameron James and Grace Owens.

What have critics said about the show? 

Critics have already showered the show with praise. The Guardian awarded it four stars, hailing it as a “pacy and pulpy series gets weirder as it goes on, with plot turns that can’t help but keep you engrossed.” ScreenHub Australia also gave it four stars, calling it an “entertaining and well-constructed twist on the traditional outback mystery.”

The Killings at Parrish Station is available to stream on HBO Max now.
