Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly reimbursed New York City more than $160,000 to help cover the public resources used during their lavish Madison Square Garden wedding.
The pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end tied the knot at the iconic venue on July 3, with the star-studded celebration requiring heightened security, a significant NYPD presence and multiple street closures around the arena.
Mayor Says Swift Covered Permit Costs
During a Friday press conference, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was asked whether Swift would reimburse the city for police overtime and other expenses tied to the high-profile event.
According to Mamdani, the singer had already paid the required amount through the event permit.
“Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” he said in remarks shared by C-SPAN.
He added that the permit was finalized only a few days before the wedding took place.
Their Wedding Reportedly Cost More Than $15 Million
The permit fee is only a small piece of what experts believe was an eye-popping wedding budget.
Industry estimates have placed the total cost of Swift and Kelce’s celebration at more than $15 million.
According to The New York Times, reserving Madison Square Garden for two days alone likely cost between $1.2 million and $1.6 million.
Event experts also estimated insurance exceeded $10,000, while lighting, staging, sound, catering, floral arrangements, décor and staffing may have totaled anywhere from $10 million to $12 million. The publication noted those figures were considered conservative estimates.
Heavy Security Came at a Cost
The massive celebration also required an extensive security operation.
Reports indicated that hundreds of NYPD officers were assigned to the event, with taxpayers initially expected to shoulder more than $1 million in policing costs as officers secured the venue and surrounding streets.

Couple Donated Millions Before the Big Day
Ahead of the wedding, Swift and Kelce also made headlines by donating $26 million to 20 different charities.
The unusually specific donation amount fueled online speculation that it may have matched the overall cost of their wedding festivities, though neither Swift nor Kelce has addressed those rumors.
Inside the Fairytale Ceremony
The ceremony itself transformed Madison Square Garden into an elaborate fairytale setting.
Footage obtained by the Daily Mail showed the arena decorated with towering trees, lush greenery, emerald-colored drapery and grand archways, creating the backdrop for the couple’s vows in front of family, close friends and a guest list packed with celebrities.
Guests gathered near the altar before making their way through hidden doors into the reception, while the outside of Madison Square Garden glowed pink for the occasion. Giant illuminated displays reading “JUST&T MARRIED!” completed the over-the-top celebration.
