The exclusive hotspot loved by European royals

A jewel of the French Riviera, renowned for its glamorous beaches and celebrity-filled streets, reaches its peak every summer as members of Europe’s aristocracy arrive to enjoy its unique charm. 

Long considered one of the world’s premier luxury destinations, Saint-Tropez continues to attract some of the most exclusive figures in international high society. 

While the stars of French cinema’s golden age once brought glamour to every corner of the town, today personalities such as Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Princess Olympia of Greece, and Sofía Palazuelo are among those shaping the social scene in this coveted Mediterranean enclave.

Princess Madeleine’s secret summer escape:

Scandinavian royal families have dominated headlines in recent weeks thanks to a series of historic milestones and high-profile engagements. As a result, a summer break appears well deserved. 

That seems to have been the intention of Princess Madeleine of Sweden, the youngest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, who chose one of the French Riviera’s most sophisticated and iconic destinations for a family getaway.

Once frequented by legendary figures such as Naomi Campbell and Jean-Paul Belmondo, Saint-Tropez remains synonymous with luxury and exclusivity. Today, however, members of Europe’s royal houses often attract as much attention as the celebrities who stroll its famous beaches.

According to Svensk Damtidning, Princess Madeleine recently enjoyed several days of relaxation in Saint-Tropez with her family. During her stay, she followed one of the destination’s most beloved traditions, visiting one of the Riviera’s most prestigious beach clubs, a favorite gathering place for international celebrities throughout the summer season.

With temperatures approaching 30 degrees Celsius, Saint-Tropez has once again established itself as one of Europe’s most desirable destinations for escaping everyday life. 

The timing of Madeleine’s holiday is particularly significant, as it comes during a landmark year for Sweden’s Bernadotte dynasty, marked by King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 80th birthday and the royal couple’s golden wedding anniversary celebrations.

Princess Madeleine is far from the only high-profile visitor to have chosen Saint-Tropez in recent months. Fernando Fitz-James Stuart and Sofía Palazuelo, the Duke and Duchess of Huéscar, traveled to the French Riviera just weeks ago, combining leisure and sport during their stay.

While there, they crossed paths with notable figures including Pierre Casiraghi and actor Jeremy Strong during the prestigious Loro Piana Giraglia regatta, one of the most important events on the international sailing calendar.

The favorite festination of royals:

Another regular visitor to Saint-Tropez is Princess Olympia of Greece, one of the most internationally recognized young royals and a prominent figure within Europe’s exclusive social circles.

Although she has not yet been spotted in the Riviera hotspot this summer, Olympia has frequently chosen the French Riviera as a destination for vacations with her family and close friends.

Last summer, members of Greece’s former royal family welcomed the season in Saint-Tropez with a celebration that attracted significant attention.

Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece traveled to the French resort town alongside relatives and friends to attend the 50th birthday celebration of Iraqi-born London socialite Rena Sindi.

For one evening, Saint-Tropez became the epicenter of a gathering that brought together some of the most prominent names on the international social scene.

Yet Madeleine and Olympia are not the only royals drawn to the allure of Saint-Tropez. Looking back to 2022, Alexandra of Hanover, daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, selected the French Riviera destination for a romantic holiday with her then-boyfriend Ben-Sylvester Strautmann.

Their getaway further reinforced Saint-Tropez’s reputation as a favorite retreat among Europe’s most prominent aristocrats and royals.

For Princess Madeleine, the escape comes at a particularly meaningful moment for the Swedish royal family. Amid a year filled with major milestones and celebrations, the princess appears to be enjoying a well-earned break in one of the most exclusive and sought-after destinations of the European summer.
