Watch Katie Holmes take over the opera as she lets loose on stage

Katie Holmes swapped the red carpet for the conductor’s podium as she showed off her playful side during a night at the opera.

The 47-year-old actress shared a video to her Instagram Stories that showed her enthusiastically pretending to conduct an orchestra, dramatically waving her arms as she embraced the moment on stage.

The light-hearted clip came after Katie attended the Metropolitan Opera’s opening night gala in New York City on September 22, where a new production of Verdi’s Macbeth kicked off the institution’s 141st season.

Katie had even more reason to enjoy the night, as she was joined by her new boyfriend, contemporary artist Jason Bard Yarmosky.

The couple were pictured together at the star-studded event, which also drew names including Sigourney Weaver, Frances McDormand, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ariana DeBose and Julianna Margulies.

Their opera date is the latest in a string of increasingly public appearances for Katie and Jason, who were first romantically linked over the summer.

They were photographed holding hands as they arrived at a screening of Olivia Wilde’s The Invite in East Hampton in July and have since been spotted together at dinners, fashion events and other outings around New York.

Earlier this month, Katie also gave followers a rare glimpse inside their relationship when she marked Jason’s birthday with a sweet Instagram tribute.

“Happy Birthday to the best of the best…,” she wrote alongside photos of the couple celebrating together, including one that showed them cosying up while holding microphones during what appeared to be a karaoke session.

The new couple then stepped out together at the Cult Gaia show during New York Fashion Week, with Katie opting for a relaxed, shoulder-baring black top teamed with wide-leg trousers, while Jason kept things similarly understated in a grey T-shirt and dark trousers.

Jason is a New York-based contemporary artist whose work has explored themes including ageing and memory, and has been exhibited at venues including the Brooklyn Museum.

Katie, meanwhile, has largely kept her romantic life private in recent years.

She was previously married to Tom Cruise from 2006 to 2012, and the former couple share daughter Suri. Katie later dated actor Jamie Foxx for several years before their relationship ended in 2019.

For now, though, the actress appears to be enjoying a particularly fun chapter – and judging by her impromptu conducting performance, she wasn’t about to let a night at the opera end quietly.
