Queen Sofía and King Juan Carlos I have shared one of their most significant family reunions in years during a strictly private gathering at the Marivent Palace in Mallorca.
The reunion marked the former Spanish monarch’s first return to Marivent since 2018, making it a symbolic moment despite taking place entirely behind closed doors.
Although Juan Carlos traveled to Mallorca to attend a birthday celebration for his longtime friend Miguel Arias, the visit also gave him the opportunity to reunite privately with Queen Sofía, their daughters Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina, and several of their grandchildren during an intimate family dinner at the royal family’s summer residence.
A private reunion, not a public appearance:
Although early reports sparked speculation about a joint public appearance, Spanish media later clarified that the gathering took place entirely within the Marivent estate and was never an official royal engagement.

Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were absent:
The reunion took place without King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who were both away fulfilling official commitments.
