Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant are one of Hollywood’s most beloved relationships, and also one of its most private. The couple, who first went public in 2019, rarely discuss their relationship, but when fans see them together, it’s always a viral moment.
They are both extremely talented artists, but Grant is now entering the wine space with her own wine brand, LOVEwine. At a launch event in Los Angeles, she offered a rare glimpse into her romance.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the artist opened up about navigating life with someone who is just as creative and passionate about his work as she is. “He’s always so appreciative, so he’s always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,” Grant said while discussing their artistic processes.
According to Grant, the secret is knowing when to give each other space. “You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake,” she explained, before adorably admitting, “Just talking about my love makes me sweat.”
The artist went on to describe a relationship built on mutual support, communication, and understanding that they each have their own needs. “There is all the listening in the world that we know that we could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed.”
At the same time, she added that they respect each other’s need to “dive deep” into individual projects and creative work.
Grant also revealed that she has learned to respect the different phases of Reeves’ creative process, whether he’s becoming John Wick or Neo.
“I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo,” she joked. “When he’s in a character, for example, I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project.”
The admiration clearly goes both ways. Last year, Reeves was asked who was more creative in their relationship, and his answer came instantly. “Alexandra,” he replied. “For sure.”
Their love story
Grant and Reeves were first collaborators, and worked together on Reeves’ book Ode to Happiness, which was published in 2011. It was illustrated by Grant.
They later reunited for Shadows in 2015 and eventually launched their publishing company, X Artists’ Books, in 2017.
It’s unclear when things got romantic, though many cite their 2019 LACMA appearance as their public debut.
But their first red carpet together actually came earlier that year at the MOCA Benefit at The Geffen Contemporary. Sources later shared they’d been dating “for years.”
