If, like me, you’re a sucker for a twisty, Agatha Christie-esque murder mystery, look no further: the gripping 2025 drama I, Jack Wright has just arrived on the BBC.

Created by Unforgotten mastermind Chris Lang, this darkly comic series centres on the chaotic aftermath of business tycoon Jack Wright’s apparent suicide. As his family descends into a desperate battle over his estate, police investigators soon uncover that his death was no accident.

With plenty of twists and turns, I, Jack Wright is perfect for any murder mystery fan. Before you press play, find out all you need to know about the series.

What is I, Jack Wright about?

After successful businessman Jack Wright dies from apparent suicide, it sends shockwaves through his family.

But when the provisions of his will are revealed, his third wife, Sally, and two sons, Gray and John, discover that they’ve largely missed out on Jack’s large fortune.

The series centres on the chaotic aftermath of business tycoon Jack Wright’s apparent suicide.

The synopsis continues: “As DCI Morgan (Lloyd) and DC Jones (Kingsman) delve further into the case, they realise Jack’s cause of death was in fact murder.

“Their sights turn to the Wright family, where the mother of all feuds is beginning. As each family member becomes more reckless and desperate in their bid to own a piece of Jack’s legacy, dark secrets and resentments are revealed with explosive consequences.”

What have viewers and critics said about the show?

The series has received high praise from viewers, currently boasting an impressive 81 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: “I watched I Jack Wright, back to back, and it is absolutely brilliant. John Simm is brilliant, as well as the cast. I would thoroughly recommend it,” while another hailed the show as “compelling and addictive”.

A third praised the twist ending, adding: “What an absolutely brilliant piece of writing from the incredible @ChrisLangWriter. So much depth and quality and I genuinely never saw that twist at the end coming.”

Critical reception has been mixed. The Telegraph awarded four stars, praising the drama as a “propulsive tale of greed, mistrust and dysfunctional family feud” full of “treachery and plot twists,” while The Times gave three stars, describing it as “pleasingly escapist.” Elsewhere, RadioTimes.com called the show “solid fun but overly busy” (three stars), and The Independent found it “frustratingly shallow” (two stars).

Who stars in I, Jack Wright?

Trevor Eve (Unforgotten) stars as Wright family patriarch Jack. He’s joined by Nikki Amuka-Bird (Luther) as Sally and John Simm (Grace) and Daniel Rigby (Wolf Hall) as Jack’s sons Gray and John, respectively.

Meanwhile, Gemma Jones (Gentleman Jack) plays Rose Wright, alongside Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (The Serpent) as Emily Wright, Rakhee Thakrar (Sex Education) as Laura Johnstone, Harry Lloyd (The Lost King, Game of Thrones) as DCI Hector Morgan and Zoë Tapper (Grace) as Georgia Wright.
