If you’re looking for a light, entertaining binge-watch to get you through a rainy weekend, you’re in luck. Season two of the charming, New-Zealand-set series Under the Vines recently arrived on BBC iPlayer.
Originally debuting on Acorn TV in 2021, the story follows a disgraced London lawyer (Charles Edwards, Downton Abbey) and a broke Sydney socialite (Rebecca Gibney, The Flying Doctors) who arrive at a boutique vineyard, each convinced they are the sole heir to the estate.
If you’re a fan of Doc Martin, you’ll love this light-hearted, fish-out-of-water story set against stunning vineyard backdrops.
Here is everything you need to know before you hit play.
What to expect from Under the Vines season two
The popular dramedy, filmed in Central Otago, New Zealand, follows Sydney socialite Daisy Munroe as she arrives in Peak View at her recently deceased stepfather’s winery, which she intends to sell.
What she doesn’t know is that the vineyard is also owned by disgraced British lawyer, Louis Oakley (Edwards), who, after being disbarred, travels to the remote wine region to escape his recent misfortune.
Season two follows Daisy and Louis, now vintners, as they continue to run their struggling winery while navigating complicated feelings for one another.
A synopsis reads: “But the course of true love – and good wine – never did run smooth, and the arrival of Louis’ estranged wife, Simone (Sara Wiseman – Mercy Peak), sees the once blossoming romance quickly fizzle out when Louis makes a last-ditch effort to save his marriage.”

The series has been hailed by viewers as “brilliant” and “delightful”.
Taking to social media, one viewer praised the “fantastic” storylines and “great cast,” while another described the drama as “full of heart” with “gorgeous” scenery and “laugh out loud moments”.
