Beyoncé and Jay-Z are incredibly loving parents who will do anything to protect their children.
The celebrity couple are notoriously private, but delighted fans by sharing a glimpse inside their world on June 21, in a new video titled The Blueprint, which documented Jay’s six-day hair transformation.
The video focused on the artist’s family, including wife Beyoncé and teen daughter Blue Ivy, 14, combing out his locs after eight years ahead of his May performance in Philadelphia.
The award-winning singer wanted to wear a fro on stage in honor of his late father, Adnis Reeves, who famously wore an afro throughout his life and who had roots to the city. For nearly a decade, Jay-Z had worn his hair in wicks, and it was far more than just a hairstyle.
The doting dad had decided to grow out his hair, which he had worn short for many years, to teach Blue Ivy, then five, to love her hair. Beyoncé – who narrated The Blueprint – explained that Blue was feeling insecure at the time, and her parents wanted to help develop her confidence.
© Cécred“Our daughter was about five, and she wasn’t feeling very confident about her hair at that time. When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair. We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls,” Beyoncé said.
Blue and Jay-Z have a very close bond, and when the teen appeared on camera, the doting dad proudly asked: “What are you doing Blue?” “Detangling his hair,” she replied, as Jay-Z responded: “Thank you baby.”
© Cécred Youtube“On show day, his fro was beautiful from start to finish,” Beyoncé said at the end of the video, as the footage cut to clips of the Grammy winner dancing in the crowds with Blue and her younger daughter Rumi, nine.
“I think the key ingredients are patience and love. It wasn’t just one person who removed his locs. It was a family affair,” she concluded.

I’ll go cross-country, do what I have to do, and I’m back on the plane that night. I love taking them to school. I love picking them up. Everything means so much more.”
The Carters are an incredibly close unit, especially during difficult times. The singer spoke about how the support he received from his family, in particular daughter Blue, meant the world to him following allegations of assault – in a since-dismissed suit – that was filed against him in December 2024.
© Cécred“Our family, we are a tight unit,” he shared as he reflected on the difficult time. “Blue has this jersey with ‘Jay-Z’ on the back. She put it on one day. She went to school with the ‘Jay’ [on her back]. I was just in the corner, like tears coming down. Seriously. To have that, it’s priceless. “People can say that [they’ll always be there for you], but it’s very rare that you’re going to have to exercise it. And in the darkest moment for me, I got to see those sorts of things.”
