Blue Ivy Carter is already showing signs of becoming a star in her own right, at least according to her grandmother, Tina Knowles.
The 72-year-old businesswoman recently praised Blue Ivy, 14, calling her a “huge talent” and applauding the teenager’s confidence and composure after appearing alongside her mother, Beyoncé, at this month’s Met Gala.
“She’s just like her mama because she’s a huge talent,” Tina told People. “And because she is very poised.” Tina admitted she was emotional watching Blue Ivy navigate the high-profile event with such ease.
“I mean, the Met Gala, I couldn’t do it,” she said. “So I was like, look how poised she is on the red carpet and how she knows exactly what she wants. It made me very proud.”
Although the Met Gala traditionally enforces an 18-and-over age policy, Blue Ivy attended the star-studded New York event with the “Single Ladies” singer. She wore a white strapless Balenciaga gown styled with an unzipped jacket, sunglasses, and silver Jimmy Choo stilettos.
Beyoncé also couldn’t stop gushing about her daughter’s appearance.
“I think she looks so incredible,” the singer told Vogue.
Blue Ivy’s Met Gala appearance marked a milestone moment for Beyoncé as well, as the “Crazy in Love” star attended the event for the first time in a decade. She served as a co-chair alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.
Earlier this month, Tina reflected on the emotional significance of seeing both her daughter and granddaughter together at the event.
“I got really emotional, shed a few tears,” she told Today. “It was kind of reminiscent. Beyoncé walked her first red carpet at 15, and Blue is 14, so seeing her out there looking confident and beautiful felt like déjà vu.”
Beyoncé described attending the gala with Blue Ivy as a “surreal” experience. “It feels surreal because my daughter’s here,” the 44-year-old singer said during Vogue’s Met Gala livestream. “She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share this with her.”
Beyoncé, who also shares 8-year-old twins Rumi and Sir with husband Jay-Z, arrived at the gala in a crystal skeleton gown by Olivier Rousteing, complete with a sparkling crown and an ombré feather cape. She accessorized the dramatic look with Chopard jewelry, including an 18-carat white gold necklace featuring a 6.41-carat brilliant-cut diamond surrounded by an additional 140 carats of diamonds.
Later in the evening, she changed into a black-and-gold gown paired with a matching veil.
