Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the only man to score in six consecutive World Cups

At 41 years old, Ronaldo achieved a milestone that no player in the history of the tournament has managed before, further cementing his place among football’s greatest icons.

Ronaldo’s historic goal came against Uzbekistan, where he opened the scoring early before adding a second goal later in the match. The brace helped Portugal secure a convincing victory while also setting one of the most significant records in World Cup history, according to AP News.

His World Cup scoring journey began in Germany in 2006. Since then, Ronaldo has scored in every edition of the tournament he has played: 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and now 2026. No other male player has managed to score in six different World Cups, let alone six consecutive editions. 

The achievement is particularly impressive because it spans two decades. His four-tournament scoring streak matched Pelé and Seeler in terms of editions, but his goal total was among the highest the competition has ever seen, until Lionel Messi broke the record in 2026 with 18 goals.

Lionel Messi: One Missed Tournament

Lionel Messi came closer than most to challenging Ronaldo’s mark. The Argentine captain has scored in five World Cups overall, but not consecutively. Several other stars managed goals in three different tournaments, including Gerd Müller, Grzegorz Lato, Jürgen Klinsmann, Thomas Müller, and Gabriel Batistuta.

Yet none extended their streak beyond four editions.
