Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is facing a life sentence after he was arrested in connection with a kidnapping and robbery incident that occurred in February 2026.

The 23-year-old NFL star is facing eight felony charges, four counts for robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and four counts for kidnapping, the Tampa Police Department announced in a statement.

According to the Tampa police, Terrion turned himself in and was taken into custody at Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County, Florida, on Wednesday, June 24. He is slated to appear in Hillsborough County court on Thursday afternoon.

The Hillsborough County state attorney’s office posted on X that prosecutors will charge Terrion with “multiple felony charges which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.”

A pretrial detention motion will also be filed to argue that Terrion should remain in custody until his trial.

Terrion is accused of being the “primary conspirator” of the armed robbery, which involved “three adult males in their late teens, who had visible injuries from being battered, held at gunpoint, and pistol-whipped before their personal property was stolen,” the Tampa police said.

The incident is said to be in retaliation for “multiple items of personal property belonging to Arnold and others,” which totaled more than $250,000, that was stolen from an apartment, three days before Terrion’s alleged kidnapping and robbery plot.

According to investigators, Terrion suspected that two of the three men attacked were responsible for the theft, but the Tampa Police said, “they were not involved.”

Prosecutors revealed that six other suspects were also “behind bars.”

“Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence,” his representation, CEO of EAG Sports Management Denise White, said in a statement.

“There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations. Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.

“Mr. Arnold looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication.”

Responding to Terrion’s arrest, the Lions said in a statement: “We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold. We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”

The NFL added: “We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time.”

Suzy Lopez, the state attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Tampa, also spoke about Terrion’s arrest, posting on social media: “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.

“A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime.”
