Elizabeth Holmes’ life is about to look very different, but she isn’t leaving federal custody just yet. The former Theranos CEO is scheduled to move from the minimum-security federal prison camp where she is currently incarcerated to a halfway house in Texas on Aug. 23, 2027.
According to an update from the Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System obtained by ABC News, Holmes is expected to be placed at the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas.
The move comes as Holmes’ story is once again dominating the conversation, thanks in part to Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s new documentary, You Can See Everything.
© Justin SullivanThe film, which was made largely in secret, follows Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, in the weeks leading up to her reporting to prison.
Fielder and Oppenheim spent time with the family shortly before Holmes’ incarceration. The film also takes an unconventional approach to documentary filmmaking, with Fielder becoming part of the story rather than simply observing Holmes from a distance.
Holmes herself continues to maintain that she did not do anything wrong. In the newly released trailer, she again pushes back against the version of events that led to her conviction.

© JP YimThe 42-year-old will remain in federal custody while living at the residential reentry center. The Bureau of Prisons describes these facilities as supervised environments intended to help people nearing release gradually reconnect with their communities.
They can provide employment counseling, job-placement assistance, financial-management services, and other reentry programs.

Her employment will need to be approved, and she’ll remain under supervision while she is living at the center. “She will be able to go to work and come back,” the source told PEOPLE, noting that she likely already hs a job.
She will also be permitted to have visitors, including her children, although overnight guests will not be allowed.
Holmes shares two children with Evans. Their son, William, was born in July 2021, shortly before her criminal trial was set to begin. The couple welcomed their daughter, Invicta, in early 2023, shortly before Holmes reported to prison.

© Justin SullivanHolmes was convicted in January 2022 of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with investors in Theranos. The jury acquitted her on several patient-related charges and did not reach unanimous verdicts on three additional investor fraud counts.
The case centered on Theranos, the blood-testing company Holmes founded and promoted as a revolutionary advancement in health care.
Prosecutors alleged that Holmes misrepresented the capabilities of Theranos’ technology to investors, including claims about the company’s ability to perform a large number of medical tests using small amounts of blood.
She was originally sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison and reported to federal prison in May 2023.
Her sentence was later reduced to 10 years and three months following a retroactive change to federal sentencing guidelines and earned time through the First Step Act, according to ABC News. Her current projected release date is Feb. 22, 2030.
A federal appeals court also upheld Holmes’ fraud convictions and a $452 million restitution order involving Holmes and former Theranos executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani in 2025.
