Heidi Klum has opened up about the diet and workout routine she’s embracing at 53. The supermodel also revealed that her husband, Tom Kaulitz, encouraged her to gain weight, adding that she now feels more confident and prefers her curvier figure.
“I love cooking and eating healthy,” Heidi told Us Weekly during her recent cover story. “And I like that my children are seeing that. I mean, they’ve seen it over the years and some practice it more than others.
The German supermodel was married to “Kiss from a Rose” hitmaker Seal from 2005 to 2014 and the pair share four children – Leni, Henry, Johan, and Lou. Heidi explained that she and her eldest daughter are similar when it comes to their taste buds. “We always say we have garlic with salad instead of salad with garlic,” she said of Leni. “She’s very much like me in that sense. She just loves healthy things. We don’t love everything overcooked and fried and dead and killed.”
Heidi also shared that she avoids raw foods as they are “harder for your body to digest”. “If you want to have fruit, blanch them in the frying pan with a bit of water. Chew enough and don’t drink too many fluids while you eat because the stomach acids can’t break it all down,” she explained.
“To me, it doesn’t make sense to eat badly and then shove 50 pills inside of you. To me this doesn’t make sense. I think that’s important, bringing it back to the basics and trying to be as natural with everything as you possibly can, I think is the way to go.”
The supermodel ensures she maintains an active lifestyle, sharing that she’s “always schlepped my own bags up and down the stairs, and I had four kids so I’ve always been mobile.”
Heidi Klum’s opinion on weight-gain
Heidi shared that she faced scrutiny in the modelling industry due to being one of the curvier stars on the runway. “I think with age, we look better when we’re not as skinny. My husband was the first one who pointed that out. He said, ‘You should eat more; you would look better if you had more meat on your bones,'” Heidi admitted.
The former Victoria’s Secret model said that her husband’s advice is “not something you’re told in the industry, ever, because you’re always supposed to be skinnier than you are.”
“When I look back at photos, I’m like, ‘He’s right!’ Proportion-wise, I look better bigger,” she said. Heidi admitted she’s “not interested at all” in GLP-1 weight loss drugs.
“I’ve gained weight over the years. I’m no longer a size 24 jean,” she shared.
