Joanna Gaines got candid about a shocking habit that she kept secret over the years as she welcomed fans inside her attic on Wednesday. The TV personality shared a video on Instagram of her cleaning out her attic in her home in Waco, Texas, as she revealed a hoarding habit she had kept under wraps.
“Hi everyone, I’m Joanna Gaines. Welcome to my attic,” she began in the video. “Because I’m very proud of my attic.” Joanna was dressed in wide-leg blue jeans and a green tank top for the foray inside the room, and she wore her long brunette locks in a half-up, half-down style.
“We are shooting some rooms in the house today, which has forced me to hide and face the reality that I have a problem. But I want to show you some of my favorite things in here. A walk down memory lane,” she continued. The 48-year-old then reached for a cake stand which featured layers of plates, saucers, and cups.
“This is so funny. When I used to do my little shop on Bosque, you guys, this was the stuff I would sell,” she said. “I would collect all this white dinnerware and make cake plate stands. How cute was this? A big seller at Magnolia, circa 2005.”
Joanna then grabbed a black moon boot, before quipping: “This, just in case. When you have five kids, you never know when you’re going to need the boot. So not letting go of the boot.” She shares her kids Drake, 21, Ella, 19, Duke, 18, Emmie, 16, and Crew, eight, with her husband, Chip Gaines. Joanna moved to a different area of the attic and picked up a brunette wig before placing it on her head.
“Um, so this is from my first collection of wigs. And this one was a hit,” she joked. “Actually, I have no idea why there is a wig up here, but I promise it’s not mine.”
The mom of five left her fans with a public service announcement. “I’m on my own today, guys, and I’m feeling sick to my stomach, and I’m regretting some choices. And I’m also here to say, clean your attics, folks. It’s summertime.”
Joanna’s fans couldn’t get enough of the hilarious video, and related to her hoarding habit in the comment section. “I just love that you really are like the rest of us! It makes me feel better about my ‘collections’,” one fan wrote, while another added: “It’s nice to know she’s like the rest of us with a junk room.”
“Thank you for keeping it real on here. We all have extra junk. Most of yours is pretty, though,” said another, while a fourth chimed in: “I feel so normal now.”
Joanna recently revealed that the family were determined to stay inside their Waco home while it was being renovated. “I’m trying to do this renovation in pieces. I am stubborn in that I refuse to move out,” she said in a social media video.
“This is going to be a fun two weeks of trying to figure out how to end the school year well, but also work through mothers’ emotional challenges through renovation,” she quipped.
