The Prince and Princess of Wales’s children may be members of one of the most famous families in the world, but even royals experience shyness and nerves at times. Princess Charlotte, now 11, is a huge tennis fan like her mother Kate and she was captured during a relatable moment at Wimbledon.
Back in 2023 when the youngster was just eight, she joined her parents and her big brother, Prince George, at the men’s final of the tennis tournament.
Charlotte was animated in the royal box throughout a nail-biting match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, but she was overcome by shyness when she met Spanish champion Alcaraz after the final.
The children got to join their mother backstage after the Princess presented the trophies to the players on Centre Court.
As a smiling Kate congratulated Alcaraz on his victory, Charlotte appeared to be a little nervous to meet the tennis star, as she was captured on camera ducking behind her mother. Watch above.
It marked the little Princess’s debut at Wimbledon, but she’s grown in confidence since then and last year, she and George were spotted asking Italian player Jannik Sinner to sign their tennis balls.
Kate’s first appearance at Wimbledon 2026
While Prince George and Princess Charlotte are yet to make an appearance at this year’s Championships, the Princess of Wales turned ticket attendant as she surprised tennis fans in the queue on the fourth day of the tournament.
A smiling Kate, dressed in a blue linen suit by Gabriela Hearst, chatted and took pictures with attendees outside the sports ground. The Princess, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), then joined stewards to help take payment and hand out tickets to lucky people who managed to gain entry after a long wait. She told two tennis fans to “have a great time” as she handed them a ticket on Thursday morning.

Love of tennis
Kate has been a regular at Wimbledon since before her marriage to Prince William in 2011 and the Waleses reportedly even have their own tennis court at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall.
Speaking of her love of the tournament, the royal told Sue Barker on a 2017 BBC documentary: “I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. It’s such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters, myself, it inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”
