Kate Middleton breaks self-imposed fashion rule at Wimbledon for first time

The Princess of Wales broke her own self-imposed fashion rule at Wimbledon this week when she attended the tournament in a suit.

Princess Kate looked incredible as she arrived at SW19 on Thursday wearing a blue blazer and matching trousers. The royal also wore a simple white blouse and added height to her frame with a pair of bronze heels.

The linen-blend suit, which appeared to be from Gabriela Hearst, coordinated beautifully with the Princess’ moonstone and lapis drop earrings from British brand Carousel Jewels, which she had previously worn to the Easter service in 2023. 

Her accessories were particularly visible since Kate wore her hair in an updo, choosing to secure her usual cascading curls into a high ponytail – a rare look for the royal.

The ensemble marked a change for the Princess who ordinarily wears a dress when attending the tournament. The Princess regularly attends Wimbledon, and last year, she presented the men’s trophy to world number one Jannik Sinner.

After entering the grounds, Kate was welcomed by a round of applause and cheers as she walked past Henman Hill. She then entered Court 18 to watch Briton Arthur Fery play his second-round match against Finnish Otto Virtanen.

Kate’s day at Centre Court 

The 44-year-old royal started her day at the SW19 hotspot by meeting people in ‘The Queue’ who had been waiting at the iconic venue since the early hours of the morning. She was also introduced to the volunteer stewards who supervise the crowds.

There was a moment when Kate even took charge to scan the tickets of people entering the tennis club.

Then, she met with children from the Shine Camera Club. The club is a creative photography programme based within the charity, SHINE Merton. It supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity, and self-expression through photography. The Princess spent time admiring the photographs that the children had taken during their time there.

Kate was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and made her second public appearance following her diagnosis at the Championships that year. She was greeted with cheers and applause as she and Princess Charlotte took their seats in the front row of the royal box at Centre Court. 

At the start of 2025, the royal confirmed she was in remission from the disease.
