The dandy-inspired look balanced professionalism and comfort, mirroring her commanding onscreen presence as Madeline “Matty” Matlock on CBS’s 2024 reboot.
The beloved legal drama has been introduced to a new generation of viewers in recent years, starring Kathy as a brilliant attorney who rejoins a prestigious law firm, using tactics to win cases while hiding a hidden agenda.
The timeless carpet look cements the actress’ status as one of TV’s most respected leading ladies, although she is the first to admit battles with her weight haven’t made things easy.
Kathy revealed in a sit-down interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, she was diagnosed with diabetes type II, “six or seven years ago”, after finding out it was a hereditary issue.
© Getty Images“My father passed away from it,” she said. “One of my sisters is dealing with it”, before admitting, “it really scared me straight.”
The candid conversation then turned into a story of hope for the actress, as she talked about pushing back on those accusing individuals struggling with their weight as having no drive.
“I just changed that word to determination. It was my choice,” the TV star stated, as her encouraging words were met with resounding applause from the audience.

Kathy’s remarkable career has spanned across more than four decades, earning accolades across film, TV and Theatre. But what is more important, the Oscar winner says, is the changes that have given her a new lease on life. “Now that I’ve been able to get really healthy, I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun,” she said.
© Getty ImagesShe is honest however about the use of a GLP-1 medication to get her over the finish line. Addressing rumours around her transformation, she told Variety that medication helped her lose the final 15 to 20 pounds – but only after years of unwavering effort.
“People say, ‘Well, it was the Ozempic….it was the Ozempic! It took me years to do this. I got this diagnosis about diabetes — my father died of it; his mother died of it; one of my sisters is in peril. When they said ’diabetes,’ I figured out what to do to slowly, over years, to lose the weight. And then when Ozempic came along, I was able to lose the last 15 to 20 pounds and keep it off,” she told the outlet.
“But the juxtaposition of getting healthy and then this show coming along is just unbelievable. The timing of it is great.”
