Katy Perry, 41, has offered a rare glimpse into her emotional sphere as she reflected on navigating heartbreak and finding peace following the most tumultuous period of her life.
On Tuesday, the singer appeared on The Unfamous Podcast, where she opened up about the inspiration behind her upcoming single Watch It Burn, and lessons she has learnt following the dark and ‘tough year’ she has faced.
In a clip shared to her instagram of the conversation, Katy disclaimed: “In Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness.” After moving on to admit, “Last year was pretty tough. I have not given myself permission to be angry.”
It is no secret that the previous years have been rough for the Californian popstar, from the ‘cringeworthy’ choreography on her Lifetimes Tour to her ‘tone-deaf’ journey into space on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin Rocket.
But it seems the star is not letting the one of the toughest years of her personal and professional life set her back, as the emotional honesty is familiar to longtime fans of the “Firework” singer.
She went on to say: “Let’s feel this pain. Let’s feel this anger. Let’s move on…Let’s learn from it also.” What is perhaps even more obvious has been the heartbreak she faced following the breakdown of her decade-long relationship and engagement to actor Orlando Bloom.
Although 2026 seems to not be all bad for the “Roar” hitmaker, after she fell head over heels for her Canadian politician, Justin Trudeau in July of last year.
In June, the former Canadian prime minister supported the singer at the premiere of her Lifetimes Tour concert film at the TriBeCa Film Festival, where she couldn’t help but declare her love for her new beau.
Katy declared: “I am very in love,” revealing: “Actually that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that.”
“Because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite,” she continued, explaining: “I fly super high and like, you know, touch the veil, cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”
“Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve,” she further shared. “And to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world.”
“I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,” she added, before reflecting on the year leading up to meeting Justin, which she called ” one of the hardest” of her life.
It is hopefully all up from here for the star, who is very much focused on making her musical return and enjoying her new found love on the other side of heartbreak. Reflecting on how she has evolved over the decades, she shared on the red carpet: “Your 20s are for emotions. Your 30s are for sorting them, and your 40s are for [expletive] not caring about those emotions and turning them into gasoline, finally transmuting all those emotions into a creative something.”
