Matt Damon is shedding light on his parenting style. Damon has been married to Argentine Luciana Barroso for decades, with the two sharing four daughters. While promoting his new film “The Odyssey,” Damon revealed how he’s coping with his growing daughters and their dating life.
Damon shares four daughters with Barroso: Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15. In an interview with E! News, he revealed that he hasn’t had any trouble when it comes to their dating life.
“I’m pretty kind. They so far have very wonderful taste,” he said. Still, he took inspiration from a very memorable Sean Penn quote when it comes to parenting. “Whatever you do to her, I’m gonna do to you when you get home,” he said, prompting laughter from his co-star, Anne Hathaway.
Damon’s turn in “The Odyssey” marks one of the biggest roles in his career, requiring him to work long hours and to go through an intense body transformation. “I haven’t been that light since high school,” he said at the New Heights podcast. “So it was a lot of training and a really strict diet.”
The Odyssey received Damon’s daughters’ approval
The hard work paid off, with his daughters sharing some rare praise for Damon. “She saw The Odyssey, and at the end of it, she actually turned to me, and she said, ‘Dad, I’m proud of you,’ ” Damon said, recalling the reaction of one of his daughters with PEOPLE. “She’s never said anything like that because we joke around a lot, and so at that point, I was like, ‘I’m good. It was all worth it.’”
Damon has been accompanied by his daughters at key events over the past month, including the London premiere, where the family posed for numerous photos on the red carpet. “It’s great because they had to sacrifice a lot too for this,” he said to PEOPLE. “I went away for a while, they came and visited, but it was a lot. It was a very long movie, very grueling shoot, and I’m really excited for my girls to see it tonight.”
