Michelle Pfeiffer is a Hollywood icon with a film career spanning almost five decades, but earlier this month, fans feared she may retire from the big screen.
The 68-year-old sparked retirement rumors on August 2 when she told guests at an industry event: “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God.”
She added: “I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”
However, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, the three-time Oscar nominee set the record straight about her future.
Clarifying that the comment was said in jest, Michelle said: “No, I mean, it’s the most ridiculous thing. They’re always saying that I’m retiring.
“Where does it say that I’m retiring? No, no. All I said was that I really love working with an ensemble cast.”
The Scarface star admitted to Jimmy that she regretted the comment “the minute it came out of my mouth,” because she realized it could be misinterpreted.
“I said something about ‘I never want to star in another movie,’ and they took that out of context. Of course I want to star in another movie, but I’ve done three ensemble pieces [recently]. I did Oh. What. Fun. and The Madison and then [Margo’s Got Money Troubles].”

She added: “It’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time.”

Both shows have enjoyed huge success, with the former earning Michelle an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.
Adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s best-selling novel of the same name, the story follows 20-year-old single mother Margo (Elle Fanning) who joins OnlyFans to make ends meet.

It focuses on the Clyburn family, led by matriarch Stacy, as they relocate from New York City to the Madison River valley of central Montana following a devastating plane crash that kills her husband, Preston.
The synopsis reads: “The Madison unfolds across two distinct worlds — the beautiful landscape of Montana and the vibrant energy of Manhattan — as it examines the ties that bind families together.”
