Nick Jonas is opening up about a frightening flight he once shared with longtime friend Glen Powell, revealing that the experience was so intense it left one of the pilots in tears.
During his Friday, June 5 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, the Power Ballad star reflected on the unsettling incident in a segment titled, “Nick Jonas and Glen Powell’s Harrowing Flight.”
“We’ve had Glen Powell on the show, he’s great. I hear you two are buddies, but were bonded through a harrowing experience on a flight,” Mark Consuelos said as he introduced the story.
“We were,” Jonas confirmed before sharing what happened.
A Flight Home From Las Vegas Takes a Scary Turn
According to Jonas, the incident occurred nearly a decade ago while he and Powell were traveling home from Las Vegas with friends.
“So this is almost 10 years ago, probably. We were in Vegas together with a group of friends, and on the way home, the plane basically took off and then — I don’t know the technical term for it — but there was an issue with the power. Which is never a good thing, obviously,” he explained.
While recalling the ordeal, Jonas couldn’t resist poking fun at his friend’s aviation skills.
“And this is pre-Top Gun: Maverick Glen Powell, so he was in flight training, but he couldn’t have landed the plane like he can now,” Jonas joked.
He continued, “He was just regular old Glen Powell. So you know, had this happened a couple weeks ago, different story.”

“Yeah, it was a frightening experience, but we were okay,” Jonas said.
The Moment He Realized How Serious It Was
After hearing the story, the hosts wanted to know how the flight crew handled the emergency.
“Did the pilots look concerned?” Consuelos asked.
With a nervous laugh, Jonas revealed, “One of them was crying when we landed.”
“That’s when you know,” the host responded.

“I was thinking, ‘Okay, maybe it wasn’t as bad as I sort of felt like it was.’ And then I saw him crying. I was like, ‘Oh no, this was bad,’ ” he recalled.
A Flight Experience He’ll Never Forget
Kelly Ripa then asked whether the flight attendants also appeared worried, explaining that she “always [tries] to gauge if the flight attendant looks like something’s wrong.”
“Yeah, they looked concerned,” Jonas responded. “It was one of those experiences you never forget.”
Consuelos noted that surviving such a stressful situation likely created a lifelong bond between the two actors.
“That’s called a trauma bond,” Ripa joked.
“That’s literally what that is,” Jonas agreed. “And you know, Glen’s the best. I think from that moment on, we’ve just built a great friendship.”

Jonas is currently promoting Power Ballad, which also stars Paul Rudd and is now playing in theaters. He’s also preparing for the release of Jumanji: Open World, which is scheduled to hit theaters later this year on Dec. 25.
