Nicole Richie’s eldest daughter, Kate, looked so grown up in a series of photos taken at the Coachella music festival over the weekend. The 18-year-old, whom Nicole shares with her husband, Joel Madden, took to Instagram to share the snaps and shocked fans in the process as they saw her transformation.
In one photo, Kate wore a cropped white top and blue jeans with a black bandana wrapped around her waist-length black hair as she stood in the crowd. In another picture, she sported a black bikini top with a denim skirt and black cowboy boots, and in a third, she posed with her friends at the event.
The teen captioned the carousel of photos by tagging Coachella and adding a lip emoji, while her mother jumped to the comment section to add: “Obsessed”. Kate’s aunt, Sofia Richie, chimed in: “Gorg”, pointing to their close bond.
Kate, who was born Harlow Winter Kate Madden, has made a major transformation in recent months after getting a tattoo in honor of her fashion mogul mom. In February, she debuted a pair of angel wings tattooed on her back, matching Nicole’s colored ones that she had inked in her younger years.
Fans were also shocked to learn that Kate was the teen’s preferred name when Nicole confirmed it in an interview with People. “Yeah, she goes by her middle name,” the mom of two said. “She has her whole life.” Kate’s dad, Joel, explained that she had picked the name back in grade school.
“She chose it,” he shared on the Dumb Blonde podcast. “We went to the open house night or whatever [at school], and the teacher [was] like, ‘Kate’s doing great. She’s so nice.’ And we [were] like, ‘Who’s Kate?'”
© Instagram“We went home, and we [were] like, ‘You go by Kate at school?’ And she goes, ‘Yeah, I like it.’ There was no discussion. It wasn’t a big deal.” The Good Charlotte rocker added that being a dad to Kate and her 16-year-old brother Sparrow was a daily blessing for him and Nicole.

“I always say my kids have made it so easy to be a dad. They are such easy people,” he revealed. “It’s not been some big sacrifice to be their dad. It feels to me like I was given a gift from god, these kids, cause they are really cool, easy, fun, and they make me happy. They make me smile.”
Nicole and Joel have been together since 2006 and tied the knot in 2010. The blonde beauty was at the height of her reality TV fame when they began dating, thanks to her starring role in The Simple Life.

“I didn’t want my kids having some big discovery about me,” she continued. “And I’ve always been very open and honest with my kids and hope that they are open and honest with me.”
