Reading:Prince William and Kate Middleton pictured on Balmoral summer break as they spend quality time with royal relatives before Prince Harry’s grand return
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been pictured alongside their royal family members at Balmoral.
Following the news of William’s brother, Prince Harry‘s, plan to live in the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, members of the royal family gathered in Scotland.
As well as the King and Queen, photographed leaving the Scottish residence were Princess Anne, her daughter, Zara Tindall and her husband, Mike; Prince Edward and his son, James, Earl of Wessex, who drove his dad in the family Range Rover.
It is unknown where the group was heading, but the occasion appeared to be a formal one. Most of Kate was obscured; what was photographed was her dazzling gold diamond earring.
Meanwhile, Anne, who was accompanied by her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, was appropriately dressed in a navy and green weatherproof jacket and matching flat cap.
While the world found out on Wednesday that the Duke and Duchess were relocating to the UK after six years in the US, the King was told on Sunday.
HELLO! Understands King Charles welcomes the opportunity to see more of Harry and his family in a private and personal capacity, but their roles within the royal family will remain unaffected by the move.
However, HELLO!’s Royal Editor, Emily Nash, suggests that not all family members will be as pleased with the surprise news.
Emily Nash explains that Prince William and Kate are likely “not delighted” about the news of Harry’s imminent return. She told HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast.
“Well, what is intriguing about this is the complete radio silence coming from that end of the spectrum. And what’s interesting about it is that they’re normally away at this time of year. I imagine they’re not delighted about this.”

Emily also explained the possibility that other members of the family may “continue to avoid” the couple upon their US return.
“There is a risk, I think, that other members of the family continuing to avoid them,” Emily said. “It might make them look petty or unforgiving. Now, there’s a lot that would need to be forgiven. Let’s be honest about this. And you can absolutely understand why William and Kate might never want to go there.
“You know, their decision to leave affected that whole generation of the royal family.”
