The Princess of Wales made her first appearance at Royal Ascot since her cancer diagnosis in 2024, and during her time at the races, it was clear that she was enjoying herself.
In one photo, the royal could be seen letting out a belly laugh as a comedic moment grabbed her attention. Sadly, we can’t see what left the royal in stitches, but Kate could be seen with the largest smile on her face as she wrapped her arm around herself.
Although the phrase is ‘tickled pink’, during her funny moment, Kate was actually wearing a bright, sunshine-yellow dress. The royal has previously worn the dress at the Wimbledon 2022 Ladies’ Finals. The beautiful, A-line gown featured an oversized statement bow, which fell into a delicately pleated skirt.
She teamed her race day look with a netted Jane Taylor hat over her low bun and neutral pointed-toe heels to tie the look together.
Kate has been absent from Royal Ascot over the past few years. In 2024, she understandably skipped the racing event as she underwent treatment for cancer.
In 2025, the 44-year-old was originally scheduled to appear but ended up cancelling her appearance at the last-minute. At the time, she had been listed as riding in the carriage procession along with William and professional golfer, Justin Rose, and his wife, Kate Phillips.
Other Ascot moments
The Prince of Wales made sure to look after his wife during her return to the prestigious event. On Ascot’s second day, they rode in the carriage procession with The Duchess of Richmond and Gordon, and as they departed, they kept their conversation going.
During the chat, a hand on her shoulder from William caused Kate to spin around to face him, opening up the opportunity for conversation between them all. This subtle, non-verbal gesture evoked a smile and a reply from the Princess of Wales.
For his Ascot appearance, William looked smart in a three-piece suit and black top hat. As he waved to onlookers upon arrival in a horse-drawn carriage, he was also seen wearing a yellow daffodil boutonniere pinned to the lapel of his jacket.
The bright floral choice not only matched the colour of his wife’s outfit, but was a subtle tribute and show of support for Wales. The daffodil is considered the national floral emblem of Wales and is typically worn along with leeks on St David’s Day in March.
