Queen Mary of Denmark proved once again that royal style is often found in the smallest details.

As she joined King Frederik X aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog for the couple’s 2026 Royal Summer Cruise, the Danish queen transformed two classic hair accessories, a silk scarf and a delicate rose, into the defining fashion statements of the voyage.

The royal’s scarf-wrapped bun proved both practical and elegant as she greeted well-wishers during the 2026 Royal Summer Cruise.

The four-day Sommertogt, one of Denmark’s most cherished royal traditions, saw the newly crowned monarchs travel along the Danish coastline between June 1 and June 4, making stops in Odense, Grenaa and Holbæk while meeting local residents, visiting community initiatives and hosting official receptions aboard the historic royal yacht.

While the cruise showcased a variety of elegant ensembles, it was Queen Mary’s carefully curated hairstyles that captured the attention of royal watchers.

A romantic rose for evening elegance:

For one of the cruise’s formal evening appearances aboard Dannebrog, Queen Mary embraced timeless sophistication in a creamy ivory ensemble that perfectly complemented the maritime setting.

The royal wore a structured cream blazer layered over a textured dress featuring an intricate circular pattern across the bodice. The monochromatic palette created a soft, refined aesthetic, allowing her beauty look to shine.

Her brunette hair was swept into a sleek low chignon positioned at the nape of her neck. Tucked into the side of the bun was a single cream rose, adding a romantic, almost Mediterranean-inspired touch to the polished hairstyle.

The floral accessory paired beautifully with her long, cascading gold earrings, creating an understated yet memorable evening look.

Her makeup remained characteristically elegant, featuring softly defined eyes, subtle contouring and a natural rosy lip that enhanced her glowing complexion without overpowering the ensemble.

The silk scarf bun that stole the spotlight:

If the rose embodied classic royal glamour, Queen Mary’s now-viral scarf bun showcased her talent for making practical fashion feel effortlessly chic.

Debuting the hairstyle during the June 2 stop in Grenaa, the queen opted for a sporty yet polished yacht-inspired outfit.

Mary paired a textured white blouse with a flowing dove-gray midi skirt and a cropped navy jacket, creating a sophisticated nautical-inspired silhouette. Pointed-toe blue slingback heels added a subtle splash of color, while oversized sunglasses enhanced the relaxed summer mood.

The true focal point, however, was her hair.

Styled into a sleek low bun, the look was finished with a silk scarf wrapped around the hairstyle and tied at the back, allowing the colorful ends to cascade down her neck.

The accessory introduced soft shades of burgundy, blush pink, cream, olive green and gold, bringing movement and visual interest to the otherwise understated ensemble.

The scarf appeared throughout several engagements during the day, from meeting local children to greeting crowds lining the streets and accompanying King Frederik during official appearances.

A practical trend with royal approval:

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the scarf bun offered the perfect solution for life aboard a yacht.

The style kept Mary’s hair neatly secured against strong coastal winds while maintaining a polished appearance throughout a busy schedule of public engagements. Beauty experts have praised similar scarf-wrapped buns for their ability to conceal flyaways and add instant sophistication with minimal effort.

The hairstyle also reinforced Queen Mary’s reputation for blending accessibility with elegance. While royal fashion often focuses on couture gowns and statement jewelry, the Danish queen demonstrated how a simple silk scarf can elevate an entire outfit.
