See the grown up children of your favourite ’80s heatthrobs — including Kurt Russell’s Marvel star son

Eighties kids have been drooling over Kurt Russell ever since he starred in sci-fi hit Escape from New York (1981). The actor proved he still had the heartthrob goods in 1996 sequel Escape from L.A. and 2015’s The Hateful Eight.

Off screen, he’s a doting father to son Wyatt who he shares with fellow screen icon Goldie Hawn. Wyatt has found superstar success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Thunderbolts*. He married Meredith Hagner in 2019 and the couple share two children, Buddy and Boone.

Rob Lowe ruled the ’80s as part of the famous Brat Pack, starring in John Hughes classic St. Elmo’s Fire and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders. He was the pin-up of choice for teens around the world and has passed on his on-screen charms to son John.

Born to Rob and wife Sheryl Berkoff, lookalike son John Owen Lowe works as an actor, writer and producer. Keeping the Hollywood spotlight in the family, father and son have collaborated on several projects including reality show The Lowe Files and co-starring series Unstable.

Kiefer Sutherland’s signature spikes and bad boy attitude won the hearts of vampire-loving teens when Robert Pattinson was just a baby in a cradle. The Lost Boys was a cultural phenomenon and Kiefer certainly helped with his rebellious appeal.

His hold on pop culture during the decade, together with the likes of Molly Ringwald and Demi Moore, even spawned dedicated documentary Brats (2024), which Andrew directed.

Brat Pack heir Sam, the oldest of three, got his break in 2019 on Netflix dark comedy Dead to Me. With subsequent roles in Goosebumps and Condor, it’s clear he’s on a path to similar stardom.

Mario Van Peebles starred alongside Clint Eastwood and Everett McGill in Heartbreak Ridge, the legendary ’80s war drama. Wrapped in one towel with another slung over his shoulder, he had ’80s moviegoers hot under the collar. 

Now, almost-identical son Mandela is taking on his family’s acting legacy. He starred alongside his father in Baadasssss!, a drama based on grandfather Melvin Van Peebles and starred in horror series Reginald the Vampire.

Johnny Depp rose to teen heartthrob status in the ’80s with a series of successful roles on screen, including big break hit A Nightmare on Elm Street, Platoon and 21 Jump Street. 

His daughter Lily-Rose is finding similar fame, starting with a 2014 supporting role in Tusk and progressing to leading roles in Nosferatu and upcoming horror Werwulf.

Matthew Broderick lived out every teen’s fantasy as Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. His cool guy persona and on-screen wit won the love of audience members around the world. Just over 10 years later, Matthew said ‘I do’ to his real-life love, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Their son James Broderick is quickly following in his talented parent’s wake, with small roles in miniseries Lady in the Lake and Elsbeth, as well as an upcoming part in Open House.

Richard Gere was the heartthrob of choice with roles in American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman. Smouldering good looks and a film legacy that includes two roles opposite the rom-com queen Julia Roberts means he is a heartthrob for life, not just for the ’80s.

His son Homer, who is one of three, is keen to follow his dad onto the screen and has several promising roles under his belt already. He’s starred in several short films and got a big break in 2026 on teen hit Euphoria. According to IMDb, he has several upcoming projects that should get him a step closer to star status.
