Taylor Swift received heartbreaking news on her wedding day to Travis Kelce, it has been revealed.
The pop singer’s favourite teacher, who became her security guard, passed away on 3 July – the same day that she tied the knot with NFL player Travis at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Kirk Schwabe, 69, who passed away from cancer, “treated Taylor like he did his daughters”, according to his wife, Jane.
His daughter, Sarah, told the Telegraph: “My dad had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued, and protected.
“Whether you were family, one of his students, or someone like Taylor whose path crossed his, he cared deeply about people. That’s the legacy he leaves behind.”
Kirk taught Taylor when she was a student at Hendersonville High School in Nashville from 2004 to 2006.
Taylor’s close bond with her teacher
The Blank Space singer was taught criminal justice by Kirk at school, before he quit his job as a teacher in 2009 to work for her.
Though he could not attend her wedding day, he previously gave his seal of approval for Travis, telling the Telegraph: “I do trust Taylor’s judgement. She knows what’s best.”
Kirk was previously a Chicago police officer and had told Taylor she was a “superstar”.
After a few years, he left his job but remained on good terms with the singer and was one of her biggest supporters.
Touchingly, in 2010, when Taylor made a cameo in the rom-com Valentine’s Day alongside Twilight star Taylor Lautner, her character’s teacher was also named Mr Schwabe.
Taylor’s wedding to Travis Kelce
Pop sensation Taylor Swift has said “I do” – and the ceremony was officiated by none other than Adam Sandler.
A billboard outside the venue read “JUST&T MARRIED” after the ceremony took place.
The couple were reported to have invited around 1,000 guests, with celebrities including Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Graham Norton, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Grant and Ethan Hawke all in attendance.
Details of the wedding have been kept tightly under wraps with a no-phones policy, while no pictures of the bride and groom, both 36, have been released yet.
Few details have been released, but, speaking on Good Morning America, host George Stephanopoulos called the wedding “moving”.
