Rihanna is the queen of the Met Gala, but queens get annoyed sometimes, too. After fashion’s biggest night, TMZ shared a video of the billionaire and her partner A$AP Rocky having what looked like a tense discussion in a sprinter bus. Once it went viral, the internet started looking for clues for what could have gone wrong.
A clip went viral of Rihanna off to the side alone before a journalist approached her while Rocky was locked in conversation with a woman. In the video, she appears to turn to him with a serious look on her face.
It began circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, captioned “Oh, so this is why they were arguing.” The clip has over 1.6M views at the time of this publication. But it wasn’t some mystery figure; it was Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert.
© GettyA source told TMZ the tension was not linked to Engelbert, a longtime Italian fashion insider who’s known Rihanna for years and reportedly has a lot of respect for her.
Sources say Giovanna had been talking with Rihanna first, and the two were laughing together before she shifted over to Rocky, who was standing nearby. At one point, she was even joking with him about his necklace.
But insiders are making it clear that there was no romantic energy between Rocky and Giovanna, just fashion-world small talk taken out of context. Sources later told TMZ they weren’t fighting at all. They said it was a 16-hour day, and they were just exhausted from the prep, appearances, and the event.
But even if they were having an argument or tense discussion, that’s totally normal in a relationship. Especially after a long, stressful, and chaotic night like the one we had. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have been together for years, and now share three children together: RZA, Riot, and their youngest, a daughter named Rocki. First linked back in 2020, and they’ve navigated much bigger moments than a red carpet conversation, including a recent shooting incident at their Los Angeles-area home.
In the clip of Rocky and Rihanna in the van, they looked irritated, sitting far apart from each other, with serious looks on their faces, but they could have also been exhausted. A witness who saw the couple throughout the night told TMZ they were having a great time and didn’t appear to have any problems at all.
It’s not the first time Rihanna has been spotted looking sassy with her partner. Back in 2018, she went viral in 2018 on a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with her on-again, off-again billionaire ex-boyfriend Hassan Jameel.
