Lucia Loi, the girlfriend of England footballer Marcus Rashford, shared an emotional update about her battle with endometriosis on Friday.
The PR executive, 28, who has had an on-and-off relationship with the athlete, took to her Instagram account to reveal the upsetting night she had after she was unable to attend a night out with the girls due to her debilitating condition.
“This was me last night. I had my heels on, my makeup done, and I was ready to go and celebrate my friend’s birthday. Endometriosis had other ideas,” she penned, alongside a photograph of herself lying in bed.
Lucia continued: “I’ve been meaning to post about this for so long, but I never really found the courage. Last night, though, I felt so much anger at the fact that so many women go through this while there are so few effective treatment options and the condition remains so under-researched.
“Over time, I have found some things that have helped to an extent and intend to share more of that. I’m sending so much love to anyone living with a women’s health condition,” she concluded.
What is endometriosis?
According to the NHS, endometriosis is where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body. The painful symptoms include severe period pain that stops you from doing your normal activities, low mood, anxiety, extreme tiredness and can make it difficult for women to fall pregnant.
Flooded with support
Lucia’s candid inspired a rush of comments from followers. “Hope you are ok @lucialoi well done for speaking. I’m sure you will help many women,” one social media user penned alongside a red love heart emoji.
Another added: “I suffered from endometriosis for years so I totally understand how you feel. Look after yourself.’ Meanwhile, a third penned: “Sending you love my girl,” alongside three white love heart emojis.
Lucia and Marcus
Lucia and Marcus have been in an on-and-off relationship since meeting at school in Manchester. In 2022, they got engaged in 2022 with the football star getting down on one knee in Los Angeles, but their engagement was called off a year later.
In 2025, the couple reunited as Marcus, who previously played for Manchester United, transferred to Barcelona.
Since then, Lucia has kept their relationship low-profile online, with Marcus only featuring in one post, showing her supporting him on the pitch. The photo is simply captioned with a love heart emoji.
